Abrasion & Wear Resistance platings

In recent years, both mechanical components and electronic parts have seen a growing demand for wear and abrasion resistance attributes, which is crucial to preserve visual appearance, resist corrosion, and maintain electrical conductivity.

For abrasion resistance, the following plating (metallization) have been utilized:
・Gold-Nickel alloy
・Silver-Tin alloy
・Palladium Nickel alloy
・Palladium Cobalt alloy
・Hard Gold
・Rhodium
・Pure Palladium
・Indium, and many more

The sliding performance, resistance to abrasion, and prevention of galling are influenced by the material's hardness, its ability to slide, and the smoothness of its surface. However, having hard metals in contact doesn't automatically guarantee favorable characteristics.

Moreover, galling is more likely to occur when similar metals are in contact. Indium plating and silver plating demonstrate exceptional sliding properties, resistance to abrasion, and prevention of galling.

For high-voltage in-vehicle connectors in electric vehicles, hard silver plating is preferred due to its outstanding heat resistance and durability against wear.
